The State of Alaska, Department of Law is recruiting for an to serve in the Natural Resources section of the Civil Division.

The Natural Resources section of the Attorney General's Office is recruiting for an experienced full-time attorney in the Anchorage or Fairbanks office. The attorney hired for this position will represent and advise the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Fish and Game, the Office of the Governor, and other State agencies and offices. The attorney will generally work to preserve and defend the State's sovereign rights, including its mandate to responsibly administer and develop Alaska's natural resources. The work may include issues relating to state-federal relations and jurisdictional disputes, ANILCA, NEPA, ANCSA, R.S. 2477 rights-of-way, public access, navigability, the public trust doctrine, the Pacific Salmon Treaty, trust land, subsistence, the Endangered Species Act, allocation, protection and management of fish and game, and management of state land and resources. The attorney also may have responsibility for drafting or reviewing regulations or legislation. Some travel may be necessary.
Five or more full years of licensed practice of law, with experience in natural resources law, all phases of litigation in state and federal courts, and administrative proceedings is strongly preferred. Applicants must have strong writing and communication skills.

Salary will depend upon the legal background and experience of the selected candidate. A comprehensive state benefits package is provided for regular, full-time, partially-exempt (PX) positions. State attorneys are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will at the pleasure of the Attorney General.
