Assistant Attorney General

Criminal Division Central Office - Full-Time; Anchorage Office

The Department of Law, Criminal Division Central Office in Anchorage is recruiting to fill a full time Assistant Attorney General position. This position will focus on legal services for the Department of Corrections involved in prisoner litigation and Brady/Giglo litigation.  The position will manage Giglio material reported by law enforcement, review cases with possible Giglio conflicts, and make necessary referrals to courts and prosecutors. Other special projects will be assigned as they occur. This position will deal with matters relating to criminal, civil, and administrative litigation in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels.  Special projects would likely involve such things as developing and implementing policy and procedure; and sitting on various committees related to the criminal justice system.

This is an opportunity to expand your horizons within the criminal justice field and provide influence at the policy level to make a difference in communities across Alaska. Prior prosecution experience is preferred, along with familiarity of Alaska’s criminal justice system. The incumbent must be able to maintain the strictest of confidences with information they will be exposed to and have access to. There will be opportunity for occasional travel to many locations throughout the state.

Salary is determined by the legal background and experience of the selected candidate.  A comprehensive state benefits package is provided.  State attorneys are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will at the pleasure of the Attorney General.
