Press Release

Anchorage Man Indicted for Murder

March 20, 2013

On March 20, 2013, 20-year-old Anchorage resident William Sharp was indicted for the February 18, 2013 murder of Purdy Alston. On March 13, Anchorage Police arrested Sharp for Alston’s murder. Sharp is believed to have shot Alston multiple times outside of Alston’s Anchorage residence.

The indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

If convicted, Sharp faces a sentence of up to 99 years in prison and a fine of $500,000. Sentencing is based on the judge’s view of the seriousness of the crime and the offender’s criminal history, if any.

Sharp is expected to be arraigned in Anchorage Superior Court on March 22, 2013.
