Anchorage Man Pleads Guilty to Assault for December 2012 Shooting

July 1, 2013

On July 1, 2013, 27 year old Anchorage resident Eddie Gray, Jr. was convicted of assault in the first degree. Gray’s conviction comes as a result of his guilty plea for shooting Charles Sherrill, Jr. multiple times with a .22 pistol in the area of East 42nd Avenue in Anchorage on December 19, 2012.

The Anchorage Police Department investigation of the shooting revealed that Gray had seen Sherrill walking on 42nd Avenue, and stopped his vehicle beside Sherrill. Gray and Sherrill continued an argument that had begun the night before. Gray concluded the argument by shooting Sherrill several times. Sherrill suffered life threatening injuries and nearly died at the hospital.

Gray’s sentencing is scheduled for August 23, 2013. Gray faces a sentence of up to seven years in prison and could be placed on supervised probation at the conclusion of his prison term. Gray will be required to pay restitution for Sherrill’s medical costs.
