Fairview Man Indicted for Murder

October 31, 2013

On October 31, 2013, 73-year-old Fairview resident Johnie Jones was indicted for the murder of 36-year-old Sean Mulgrew on October 20, 2013. The indictment was returned following an investigation by the Anchorage Police Department. Mulgrew’s dead body was discovered by Anchorage Police in an alley. A blood trail led the police to the Fairview apartment building where Jones lived.

The grand jury indicted Jones on murder in the second degree, weapons and drug offenses, and tampering with physical evidence. If convicted, Jones faces a sentence of up to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000.

The indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Jones will be arraigned on the indictment in Anchorage Superior Court on Monday, November 4, 2013.
