Press Release

Anchorage Man Indicted for Mountain View Shooting

January 16, 2014

Today, 19 year old Talon Draper was indicted for assault in the first degree. The indictment stems from the shooting of Jermaine Twiley in Mountain View on January 7, 2014. The investigation revealed that Twiley was struck in the back of the head. Twiley remains hospitalized in Anchorage.

Draper was arrested shortly after the shooting following an investigation by detectives from the Anchorage Police Department’s homicide response unit. Draper remains in custody.

The indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

If convicted, Draper faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is based on the judge’s view of the seriousness of the crime and the offender’s criminal history, if any.
