Anchorage Man Indicted for Attempting to Kill his Wife
March 21, 2014
On March 20, 2014, 73 year old John Marshall Bagley was indicted for stabbing his 66 year old wife, Judy Bagley, at their home in South Anchorage.
Bagley is accused of attacked his wife with a knife inside their home. It is believed that the attack followed an argument about divorce. Bagley appeared to have chased his wife outside of their home and continued the attack. A neighbor intervened and restrained Bagley until the Anchorage Police arrived.
The indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Bagley will be arraigned in Anchorage Superior Court on March 24, 2014 at 1:45 p.m.
The grand jury indicted Bagley for attempted murder in the first degree and assault in the first degree. If convicted, Bagley faces a sentence of up to 99 years in prison and a fine of $500,000. Sentencing is based on the judge’s view of the seriousness of the crime and the offender’s criminal history, if any.
