Hillside Man Indicted for Murdering his Girlfriend
July 8, 2014
Today, 23 year old Joshua Daniel Almeda was indicted for murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, and misconduct involving a weapon in the third degree. The indictment stems from the shooting death of Almeda’s then-girlfriend, 20 year old Breanna Moore, on June 26, 2014.
The indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
If convicted, Almeda faces a sentence of up to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. Sentencing is based on the judge’s view of the seriousness of the crime and the offender’s criminal history.
