Anchorage Man Convicted of Felony Assault on Girlfriend
August 25, 2014
On August 25, 2014, an Anchorage jury convicted 52 year old Jeffrey Fleek of assaulting his girlfriend in their residence. The victim’s adult daughter called 911 on December 21, 2013 from the residence to report that Fleek was “choking” her mother. Anchorage Police responded to the residence and found the victim in the living room. She was taken to the Alaska Native Medical Center for evaluation and treatment for her injuries. Fleek denied “touching” her and claimed that her injuries were caused by tripping over a stove in the kitchen.
The jury heard three days of evidence and returned a guilty verdict after about two hours of deliberations. The assault was alcohol related. The jury also found an aggravating factor - that Fleek committed the assault against a member of his household. Fleek was convicted in 2011 for assaulting the same victim.
Anchorage Superior Court Judge Michael Spaan scheduled Fleek’s sentencing for January 2, 2015. Spaan could sentence Fleek to spend up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000. Fleek has been in jail since his arrest on December 22, 2013.
