Press Release

State Comments on Safe Streets Investigation

December 10, 2015

The Anchorage District Attorney’s Office commends the work of the FBI Anchorage Safe Streets Task Force and the District of Alaska U.S. Attorney’s Office for its investigation that led to the arrest of several Anchorage residents on December 9, 2015.

A series of shootings in January 2015 prompted the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office and the Anchorage Police Homicide Unit to closely coordinate its response with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Prior to the Safe Streets arrests on December 9, the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office and the Anchorage Police had previously filed charges against several of the targets of the Federal investigation. The State of Alaska anticipates that the trials of those defendants on the State charges will take place in 2016.

The Anchorage Police and the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office believe there are individuals in the community with additional information about some of the prior shooting events, especially the January 29, 2015 homicide of Krystal Hawk and Christian Haynes. The investigation is ongoing. Those with information about any of these events are encourage to call the Anchorage Police Department at 786-8900 or Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP (7867) or at

Defendants are presumed innocent.  The State must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
