Press Release

Suspected Thief at Large in Anchorage

March 10, 2016

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – Earlier today, an Anchorage grand jury indicted 49 year-old Carl Dean Pagel for escape in the second degree, alleging that Pagel left a halfway house on February 27. Pagel was in custody following an earlier indictment charging him with involvement with a jewelry theft from Walmart in September 2015. Pagel's trial on that charge, scheduled to begin on March 14, has been cancelled pending his return to custody. Superior Court Judge Jack W. Smith issued a warrant for Pagel's arrest on March 8.

Anyone with information about Pagel's whereabouts should contact the Anchorage Police Department immediately.

The charges against Pagel are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Pagel is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This information is provided to allow members of the public to protect themselves and to facilitate Pagel's apprehension in an expeditious and safe manner.
