California Man Indicted for String of Robberies

July 8, 2016

(Anchorage, AK) – On July 7, 2016, 36 year old Donnie Holton, of Los Angeles, California, was indicted for committing four armed robberies in Anchorage in April and May 2016.

On April 26, 2016, the Anchorage Police responded to a reported armed robbery at the Subway restaurant near Northway Mall. Restaurant employees reported a man entered the restaurant, walked behind the counter, brandished a firearm and demanded that the employees open the register. The suspect took money out of the register and left on foot.

On April 27, 2016, Anchorage Police responded to the Holiday Station on Mountain View Drive for a reported robbery. Store employees reported that a man entered the store, brandished a firearm, and demanded money from the register. The man ordered the employees to their knees then took money out of two registers. The man left the store on foot.

On May 11, 2016, it was reported that the same man entered the Holiday Station on Mountain View Drive. The man walked behind the counter, brandished a firearm and ordered the employees to open the register. After taking money from the registers, the man left on foot.

Finally, on May 19, 2016, Anchorage Police responded to the Holiday Station on East Northern Lights for a reported robbery. The employees reported that a man entered the store, brandished a firearm, and demanded that they open the registers. The man took money from the registers and left on foot.

The Anchorage Police Department’s Robbery Assault Unit investigated the robberies, suspecting that the robberies were linked. Holton was charged with the robberies on June 28, 2016, following a month-long investigation.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent. The State must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, Holton faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison for each count of robbery. Sentencing is determined by the court’s evaluation of the circumstances of the offense and the defendant.

Holton will be arraigned in Superior Court on Monday, July 11, 2016. His bail has previously been set at $100,000 cash or corporate, plus a court approved third party custodian.
