Anchorage Man Indicted for Kidnapping and Child Sex Abuse

November 17, 2016

(ANCHORAGE, AK) – On November 16, 2016, 63 year old Paul Allen Harris was indicted for kidnapping and sexually abusing a seven year old girl in June 2016. The Anchorage grand jury indicted Harris on one count of kidnapping, two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, and one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

The indictment stems from events on June 13, 2016, in South Anchorage. A man called the Anchorage Police to report that a man had sexually abused his daughter in their neighborhood. The Anchorage Police responded to the call and took the child to Alaska C.A.R.E.S. for an examination and forensic interview.

Harris faces a sentence of up to 99 years for the kidnapping and sexual abuse. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, November 18, 2016. Harris has been in the custody of the Department of Corrections since June 14, 2016. He is being held on $20,000 cash bail and a requirement for a court approved third party custodian.

The charges in the indictment are only an allegation and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
