Gilbert Nashookpuk Sentenced for 2015 Assisted Living Facility Homicide

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) Today, Superior Court Judge Jack Smith sentenced 26 year old Gilbert Nashookpuk to serve 60 years in prison for the murder of Glenna Wyllie on November 7, 2015. Nashookpuk previously pled guilty to murder in the first degree on November 10, 2016.

On November 7, 2015, just after midnight, Gilbert Nashookpuk called 911 to report he had killed someone at an assisted living facility in Anchorage. Anchorage Police Department Officers responded and found 57 year old Glenna Wyllie deceased in the garage. The State Medical Examiner’s Office determined that she died as a result of strangulation and blunt force injuries to the head. Nashookpuk confessed to homicide detectives that he killed Wyllie. Nashookpuk has been in the custody of the Department of Corrections since his arrest on November 7, 2015.

Several members of Wyllie’s family traveled to Anchorage to attend today’s sentencing hearing. Nashookpuk took responsibility for killing Wyllie and asked for forgiveness. Judge Smith accepted the plea agreement which calls for a total sentence of 80 years in prison with 20 years suspended as well as 10 years on probation.
