Anchorage Man Sentenced to 28 Years for Robbery

October 13, 2017

(Anchorage, AK) – Today, 45 year old William Travis McCann was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Michael Corey to 28 years for the June 17, 2017 robbery of Andy’s Ace Hardware Muldoon.

McCann pled guilty to Robbery in the First Degree, three counts of Assault in the Third Degree, and one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Third Degree. McCann received the maximum sentence for each of these offenses.

As detailed in the original complaint, convicted felon McCann entered Andy’s Ace Hardware in Muldoon armed with a Taurus .357 revolver. McCann shot multiple rounds into a cash register, stole $628.00 in cash, and ran out of the store. Between 40 and 50 customers were at the store during the robbery. Andy’s Ace Hardware employee Michael Hadley followed McCann and shot McCann as McCann tried to flee the scene in a Ford Bronco. Anchorage Police arrived and medics transported McCann to a local hospital to treat his wounds.

In sentencing McCann, Judge Corey noted that isolation and community condemnation of McCann’s conduct were the primary sentencing goals.

The Anchorage District Attorney’s Office thanks Andy’s Ace Hardware owner Stephanie Van Ness, the United States Attorney’s Office, and Anchorage Police Department Robbery and Assault detectives for their assistance in bringing this case to conclusion.
