Fairbanks Man Sentenced to 59 Years for Brutal Assault

March 13, 2014

Today, 41 year old Edward Parks, Jr. of Fairbanks was sentenced to serve 59 years in prison for the brutal beating and restraint of his domestic partner with whom he shared multiple children. Parks’ sentence comes as a result of his convictions for kidnapping, assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, witness tampering in the first degree, and assault in the fourth degree.

On December 19, 2011, Parks drove his victim to a remote part of south Fairbanks where he brutally beat her to the point where she was forced to lay down in the snow and pretend to be dead. Following that, he drove her back to their apartment where he continued to beat her while she was bound by belts. He also strangled her with the laces from his boots. As a result of the beating, his partner suffered three broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and bruising all about her body. Though she begged him to take her to the hospital, Parks refused for two days and didn’t change his mind until his victim agreed not to tell the authorities that he inflicted her injuries.

The Alaska State Troopers and the Fairbanks’ Adult Probation Office were instrumental in the investigation, and Assistant District Attorney Andrew Baldock prosecuted the case.
