Anchorage Man Convicted of Halloween 2014 Sexual Assault

(Anchorage, AK) – On October 13, 2016, an Anchorage jury found 25 year old Darin Cleveland guilty of sexually assaulting a woman on Halloween in 2014.
On November 1, 2014, a woman called the Anchorage Police Department to report that she had been sexually assaulted earlier in the morning. Anchorage Police Detective Jade Baker led the investigation. The investigation developed DNA evidence that linked Cleveland to the crime. Cleveland was arrested by the Anchorage Police Department on November 2, 2014.
Cleveland, born in Kotzebue but living in Anchorage in 2014, was convicted by the jury of sexual assault in the second degree, a class B felony. Assistant District Attorney Michael Ebell prosecuted Cleveland in the eight day trial.
Superior Court Judge Michael Corey presided over the trial and scheduled sentencing for February 13, 2017. Cleveland faces a sentence of up to five to 15 years in prison. Cleveland will remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections until he is sentenced.
